Mrs.. Mary Pearl Hanchey, age 82 of Rose Hill, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Carolina East Quinn Hospice Care Center, Kenansville. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel conducted by Dr. Ronald Ginn. Burial will follow at Little Creek Cemetery, Wallace. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Padgett Funeral Home and Cremation Services Chapel. She is survived by an aunt, Centelle Hardison of Teachey, NC, two nephews, Stevie Bartley of Mooresville, NC and Glenn Bartley of Charlotte, NC and several cousins. Born March 28, 1931 in Duplin County, Mrs.. Hanchey was the daughter of the late Pearlie Ralph and Mary Lula (Hanchey) Hanchey and was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Hanchey Bartley. Mary was a longtime member of the Island Creek Baptist Church. She graduated in 1950 from Wallace High School where she became the Valedictorian. While in high school, she was also a member of the Beta Club and the Glee Club. Following high school, Mary continued her education at Eastern Community College working on her bachelor's degree in education.
