Mrs. Mary Mitchell Wellons age 80 of Topsail Beach, formerly of Wallace died Monday February 27, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Sloan and husband David of Taylors, SC, Cindy Thompson and husband Frank of Spartanburg, SC, and Judy Paliotti and husband Joey of Topsail Beach, NC, two sisters, Betty Webb of Graham, NC, and Billy Allison of Denton, NC, two brothers, Wesley Mitchell and wife Joyce of Ashboro, NC and Sidney Mitchell and wife Ava of Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren, Jade Sloan, Blanche Sloan, Jay Thompson and Jency Paliotti. Born April 8, 1931 in Denton, NC, Mrs. Wellons was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Nona Rush Mitchell and was a member of Faith Harbor United Methodist Church in Surf City. Mrs. Wellons was a retired principal of Rose Hill Magnolia Elementary School. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, visiting with family and friends, and serving God and her church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, James C. Wellons, Jr. and a brother, Joe Mitchell.
