Melva Elizabeth Johnson, age 85, left her earthly home on Tuesday afternoon, August 29, 2017 and is now rejoicing in her heavenly home. She was born on November 5, 1931 to the late Willie Wootten Johnson and Naomi Elizabeth Johnson. She is survived by her son, James Michael Powell of Wallace, N.C., her step-son, Brett Johnson of Fayetteville, N.C., her grandsons, Dayne Powell of Wallace, N.C. and Sean Powell of Wilmington, N.C. and her very special friend and sister-in-law, Geraldine Johnson of Harrells, N.C. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Watha, N.C. where Mrs. Johnson will be entombed. The service will be conducted by Dr. Alan Thompson. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her first husband James Powell, her second husband James Edward Johnson, brother Willie Johnson, and brother Earl Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallace, N.C. She was a wonderful lady who was very active in her community. For many years she taught second and fourth grades in the public school system. There was a passion in her to be active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and she loved searching records for family genealogy. From a personal standpoint, there was very precise nature about her in everything she did and everything was done by the "book of etiquette" which was in her nature. There was also a wonderful cook in her that delighted many, many friends.
