Rose Hill

Nancy Jones Johnson, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at her home in Rose Hill, NC. She was born on January 31, 1936, in Bladen County, North Carolina, to the late William E. and Mary E. Jones.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Ervin Johnson, as well as her siblings, Amos and Andy Deaver, Charles “Bud” Jones, Patty “Pat” Jones, and Brenda Spencer.

She is survived by her four loving children: Diane Wilson (Clifton) of Raleigh, NC; Rick Johnson (Donna) of Magnolia, Texas; Donald Johnson and Lois Thornburg of Wilmington, NC; and Patty Holloway (Brad) of Pittsboro, NC; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her special nephew, Scott Spencer, and her special niece, Andrea Murzyn, with both of whom she shared a unique and deeply loving bond.

Andrea lived with Nancy and lovingly cared for her throughout the final years of her life as she faced dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, allowing her to remain at home surrounded by love and dignity. Andrea’s fiancé, Lee Hanchey, was also a tremendous source of help, kindness, and support during this time. Together, they gave Nancy the invaluable gift of comfort, compassion, and devoted care that will always be remembered.

Nancy attended Rose Hill High School and was employed by Ramsey’s Feed Mill and JP Stevens Textiles. She was a longtime member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where she served in various roles and dearly loved her church family.

A caregiver at heart, Nancy was selfless, generous with both her time and resources, kind, loving, patient, and gentle. She was strong and protective of those she loved, deeply devoted to her family, and always willing to put others before herself.

Nancy loved to travel and especially treasured summers spent at the beach with her family, a tradition that brought her great joy. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers and cherished the close relationships she built throughout her life.

She also leaves behind special neighbors whom she considered family: Fernando, Veronica, Angelica, and little Fernando Juarez, as well as her dearest friend, Mary Raynor, who stood by her side as a neighbor, coworker, and lifelong friend.

The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of 3HC (Home Health & Hospice Care, Inc.) for their compassionate care and support, and to caregiver Arlethea Newkirk for her kindness and dedication.

Nancy will be remembered for her loving spirit, unwavering faith, generous heart, and lifelong devotion to family and service. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to Rose Hill Baptist Church or 3HC (Home Health & Hospice Care, Inc.).
