Ray Bryant Cavenaugh of the Northeast community of Wallace, NC, departed his earthly life for his heavenly home on Friday, July 7, 2023, while at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC.  Born on May 5, 1943, he is the son of the late Isaiah Tobe and Florence Cavenaugh Cavenaugh.  Also preceding him in death are siblings--Aubrey Cavenaugh, Bertie Gilbert, John David Cavenaugh, and Virgie Cavenaugh Profitt.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife--Mary Lou Hatcher Cavenaugh; children--Michael Ray Cavenaugh and wife Wendy of Granite Falls (NC) and Brian Keith Cavenaugh and wife Lesia of Wallace; grandchildren--Rian Cavenaugh of Morganton, Ashley Turner of Chinquapin, and Christopher Cavenaugh of Wallace; great grandchildren--Hurley Smith, David English, Luke English, and Gage English; siblings--Annie Pearl Bray of Wallace and Aaron Cavenaugh and wife Jenny of Wallace.

Mr. Cavenaugh was a farmer at heart for the majority of his work career.  He knew the rewards of hard work and was proficient in the use of his "bobcat", woodworking tools, and his sawmill.  He enjoyed deer hunting, auctions, and "sweets".  Some viewed him as a "particular" person but he did not seem to mind.  Most of all he loved and enjoyed his family very much.

A service to celebrate his life is set for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace, with visitation at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in the Cavenaugh Cemetery on Highway 41 in Wallace.  Friends may also visit family at the residence or at 4088 South NC 41 Hwy, Wallace, NC.
