Mrs. Ruby Usher Ramsey age 95 of Teachey, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday May 20, 2009 at Teachey Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Charles Love. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters; Ann Ramsey Fussell and husband Billy of Rose Hill, Kara Ramsey Norris and husband Dan of Teachey, Linda Gray Ramsey of Kinston, one son; Jimmy Usher Ramsey and wife Phyllis of Leland, ten grandchildren; Jay Fussell and wife Joey of Wallace, Bert Fussell and wife Sarah of Rose Hill, Wendy Kelley and husband Ronald of Rose Hill, Scott Ramsey of Leland, Alecia Williams and husband Roger of Wilmington, Keith Norris of Castle Hayne, Nancy Davis of Wallace, Linda Ann Carr and husband Ed of Clinton, Terri Blanchard and husband Allen of Turkey, Dana Henderson and husband Joe of Beulaville, thirteen great grandchildren; Bailey Davis, Jenna Davis, Ian Kelley, Collin Kelley, Jason Fussell, Will Fussell, Brock Williams, James Carr, Jewel Anna Carr, Taylor Dengler, Alexis Blanchard, Christian Henderson and Jonas Henderson. A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Ramsey was the daughter of the late Robert Dunn Usher and Radie Florence Usher. She is preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Ramsey and one daughter Sandra Ramsey Jewell and husband Larry. She was a member of Teachey Presbyterian Church and was very active in her community. Among her accomplishments, Mrs. Ramsey served as President of Women of the Church, Sunday School Teacher, Elder, Historian and given the Life Time member pin. She also served as town commissioner of the Town of Teachey for two terms, Mayor of the Town of Teachey for thirty-six years, was Secretary & Treasurer of Duplin County Municipal Association 1966, President of Duplin County Municipal Association 1978, member of Good Neighbor Council, Charter member of Duplin County Mental Health Association, Secretary and one of the founders of Duplin County Mental Health of Retarded Citizens, Board of Directors for Retarded Citizens, Board of Directors for the Cancer Society, Vice-Regent of DAR. Mrs. Ramsey also was listed in 1968 Book of Outstanding Leaders of American and Women Political Leaders of North Carolina. She was appointed to the North Carolina Code Qualification Board by Governor Hunt. Her hobbies included playing Solitaire on her computer and enjoyed traveling the world. Casket Bearers will be grandsons; Jay Fussell, Bert Fussell, Scott Ramsey, Keith Norris, Ronald Kelley and Roger Williams. Honorary Casket Bearers will be great grandsons; Jason Fussell, Will Fussell, Ian, Kelley, Collin Kelley and Brock Williams. Memorial gifts can be made to Teachey Presbyterian Church, Caswell Center of Kinston, and American Cancer Society of Duplin County. A special thanks to the staff at the Brian Center for the good care given.
