Ruth Jones Knowles passed away peacefully at her home in Rose Hill on May 31, 2014. Ruth was born in Sampson County to the late Mary Estelle Hope and John Jones. She married Willie Price Knowles on November 9, 1935. Together they were happily married for 62 years before his passing in 1997. Throughout her life, Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and sister, and an exceptional grandmother known affectionately as \"Nanonna,\" \"Bangma,\" \"Granny,\" \"G-momma,\" and simply \"Grandma.\" Attempting to capture Grandma in words is nearly impossible, as it is difficult to articulate the lasting legacy of family, friendship, and love she created during her time on earth. Grandma was one of a kind. She enjoyed cooking for her family, working in her yard, reading her Bible and Christian romance novels, and generally taking care of everybody. She loved going shopping with her children and grandchildren, and visiting with all of her friends at the beauty shop. Grandma managed, in her own simple way, to create an extraordinary life - a life centered around her unwavering faith in Christ, love for family and friends, and appreciation for good food (which she often prepared herself). Her generosity, hard work, and joy were evident from her homemade ham biscuits and 12-layered, chocolate cakes to her front yard blooming with azaleas to her gentle laugh. To her family, Grandma will be remembered most for her quiet, tender strength and her ability to make everyone feel loved and welcomed. She is irreplaceable in every way and will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Memorial Service: 2:00pm, Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Corinth Baptist Church, 1107 Cornwallis Road, Rose Hill, NC 28458 with the Reverend Larry King and Pastor Steve le Roux officiating. Burial: Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
