Sarah Katherine Sanderson age 91 of Rose Hill, NC passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Carolina East Home Care and Hospice in Kenansville, NC. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Rose Hill, NC conducted by the Reverend Brian Doles. Burial will follow at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville, NC. The family will receive one hour prior to the service at the church. She was born on January 1, 1922 in Duplin County to the late Walter James and Nellie Rackley Sanderson. Ms. Sanderson is survived by her sister, Grace Sanderson Farrior of Wallace, NC, two nephews, Ray Sanderson, Jr. and wife Connie of Harrisburg, NC and Wade Farrior and wife Shella of Wallace, NC, three nieces, Debbie Sanderson Thomas and husband Ken of Raleigh, NC, Sarah Farrior Perry and husband Jim of Wallace, NC and Kim Sanderson of Raleigh, NC, eight great nieces and nephews, Jeffery Sanderson, Chris Sanderson, Brittany Thomas Allred and husband Lindsey, Cameron Thomas and wife Lauren, Tripp Perry, Grace Perry, Andrew Williams and Alex Farrior. Ms. Sanderson was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Sanderson. Sarah Katherine was a veteran of WWII, having served as a WAC from 1943-1946 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After leaving the army, Sarah Katherine moved to Raleigh where she worked for several companies until 1965 when she began working for the N. C. Department of Agriculture where she worked until her retirement in 1984. While living in Raleigh, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for over 40 years. In 1994, Sarah Katherine moved back to her hometown of Rose Hill to be closer to her family. Once back home, she began attending her childhood church, Mt. Zion Presbyterian where she sang in the choir and enjoyed her job of keeping flowers in the sanctuary each Sunday. Sarah Katherine was also a member of the Rose Hill Woman's Club where she happily baked cakes and loaves of bread for fund raisers. Besides her love of flower arranging and baking, she loved most of all spending time with her family, especially at the beach. Christmas was most definitely her favorite time of the year. She would spend much time looking for just the right gift for every niece and nephew (who all called her Tata) as well as baking everyone's favorite \"goodies\". She loved to tell jokes, play Bridge and just enjoyed life in general. Casketbearers will be Jeffrey Sanderson, Chris Sanderson, Tripp Perry, Cameron Thomas, Grace Perry and Brittany Thomas Allred.
