Mr. Thomas Raeford \"Ray\" English, age 79 of Wallace, NC, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the church that he loved, Poston Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel conducted by Rev. James B. Brinkley and Pastor Dustin Gillespie. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Louise (Sanderson) English of the home, a son, Jeff English of Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Cynthia Clark and husband Rodney of Bolivia, NC, a step grandson, Nicholas Clark and wife Aimee of Chesapeake, VA, three great grandchildren, Chase, Ryan, and Sydney, a sister, Mary Susan \"Sue\" English Parker of Sanford, NC, and several nieces and nephews. Born February 10, 1934 in Willard, NC, Ray was the son of the late Edward May and Isabel (Cashwell) English and was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Cashwell and Edward James English. Ray was a longtime member of the Poston Baptist Church where he taught Bible School for the Sr. Men's Group. Mr. English attended Penderlea School before entering the United States Army serving in the Korean War. After an Honorable discharge, Ray worked for several years for J.P. Stevens Co. Soon afterwards, Ray continued his education in Durham and received a degree from Barber School. After graduating, he started his own business, Ray's Barber Shop, cutting hair in the local area for the past 55 years. Ray also received an Associates Degree in Horticulture and Accounting from James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville. Ray also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. Casketbearers will be Jettie Parker, Jr., Mark Parker, Dexter Parker, John Sanderson, David Sanderson and Bobby Mosback. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of choice. Services are provided by Padgett Funeral and Cremation Services, Wallace
