Mrs. Violet Myree Herring Harrell Bland, age 96 of Rose Hill, NC, died on May 15, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Wallace Presbyterian Church in Wallace, NC conducted by Dr. Philip Gladden. Burial will be at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC. The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, May 18 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Padgett Funeral Home, Wallace, NC.
She is survived by two daughters, Janis Harrell Zibelin and husband Warren of Nebo, NC, and Cheryl Harrell Howard and husband Elwood of Shallotte, NC, her son, Mike Harrell and wife Sandra of Louisburg, NC, her stepchildren, William Bland and wife Caryl of Wilmington, NC, Joe Bland III and wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC, Bob Bland of Little Switzerland, NC and Sarah Bland of Sneads Ferry, NC, her grandchildren, Jay Howard and wife Debbie of Shallotte, NC, Ken Howard of Shallotte, NC, Gina H. Gilley and husband Stephen of Rocky Mount, NC, Raymond Howard and wife Lindsay of Dallas, TX, Lorrie Wright of Knoxville, TN, Phillip Harrell and wife Jodi of Hillsboro, NC, fourteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in NC and GA.
She was born on April 27, 1920 in Forsyth County, GA to the late Cecil Barrett and Violet Bagwell Herring. She is also predeceased by her husbands, Raymond Charles Harrell and Joseph W. Bland, Jr., her brother, C. B. Herring, Jr., her sisters, Addie Lou Greer and Willie G. Harrell and her granddaughter, Vicki Howard.
Myree was a member of Wallace Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. In earlier years, she was a member of Charity Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She attended Toccoa Falls College obtaining a degree in Business. She became a business woman when accepting a position to work in banking in Atlanta, GA. She also worked in banking in Wallace and later accepted a position as a loan officer and assistant manager at Bank of America in Kenansville. She loved her family above all earthly things and was very dedicated to them. She loved to cook and loved music. She was an advocate for herself and her family. She never gave up---her faith was very strong and she relied on it when times were difficult in her life. She had a great sense of humor. Above all else, she was a survivor and a Southern lady. Her family stated that she was a very progressive lady in her generation.
