William Eugene "Billy" Ramsey, age 63, of Wallace died unexpectedly on Thursday morning, June 9, 2016.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Duplin Memorial Gardens in Teachey, NC conducted by Pastor Tyler Jernigan and Sheriff Blake Wallace.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Padgett Ramsey, a daughter, Ann Marie R. Hanchey and husband, Andrew of Wallace, special children, Devin and Cathy Rich of Chinquapin, sister, Joyce Lucas Rivenbark of Burgaw, five grandchildren, Hunter Hanchey, Austin Hanchey, Haleigh Hanchey, all of Wallace and Haden and Addison Rich of Chinquapin, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Bud Saylor of Wallace and his special four legged fur baby, Snickers , and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Pender County, November 24, 1952, Billy was the son of the late Pearl Bowden Ramsey and Eugene Ramsey. Billy was a retired Captain with the Duplin County Sheriff's Office after serving 30 years. Since his retirement, he enjoyed his part-time job with the ABC store in Wallace. If not working, he enjoyed spending every possible minute with his grandchildren who all were the apples of his eye. He was a kind and gentle man and he was loved by many. He was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and many others. He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Ramsey Bill.

Casketbearers will be Hunter Hanchey, Austin Hanchey, George Allen Brown, David Matthews, Harry Walker, Myrle Beringer, AC Rivenbark, Brent Dean, Regina Huffin, Dr. Daniel Ricci, David Bill, Timmy Rivenbark, Trevor Padgett, Daniel Padgett, Todd Bill and Weston Padgett..

Honorary Bearers will be members of the Duplin County Sheriff's Office and the Wallace Police Department.

The family will receive at Padgett Funeral Home in Wallace from 7:00-9:00 pm on Saturday, June 11, 2016 and will be at the residence of Ann Marie and Andrew Hanchey, 134 Hanchey Road, Wallace, NC at other times.
