Berton Wayman Eason, Jr.

Berton Wayman Eason, Jr. of Wallace, NC passed from his earthly life on Friday, April 8, 2022 while at home.  Born on November 2, 1929, he is the son of the late Edna Mae Taylor Eason and Berton Wayman Eason, Sr. of Harnett County.  Also preceding him in death are his first wife--Doris Pauline Eason; siblings--Edward Eason, John Eason, and Pam Smith; son--Lloyd Oxendine Jr; granddaughter--Morgan Locklear; and grandson--John Michael Christie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife--Gladys Faye Sampson Eason; children--Mike Eason and wife Linda of Rochelle (GA), Beverly Trobaugh and husband Patrick of Wallace, Paula Sprinkle and husband Benjamin of Lenoir, Lori Christie of Chinquapin, Elton McGirt and wife Pamela of Laurinburg, Rebecca Hubbard and husband Robbie of Tatum (SC), Alisha Young of Wallace, Frederick Oxendine and wife Lisa of Laurel Hill, and Brandon Oxendine and wife Tracy of Pembroke; thirty-five grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters--Judith Eason Lance of Morganton, Karen Hartmen and husband Rodney of Fayetteville, and Betsy Gressett of Buford; and aunt--Dot Whitfield. 

Mr. Eason was very proud of his military career where he served his country in the United States Navy for twenty-one years.  After retirement he owned and operated an auto parts store in Wilmington for a number of years.  After this he worked for Four County Community Services where he weatherized houses for needy residents.  One of his greatest joys in life was using his "Santa Claus identity" to charm many, many children through the years.  He also enjoyed stamp collecting and any activity that is outside.  Family was the most important thing on earth to him and he loved spending quality time with them.

A memorial service to celebrate his life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Service of Wallace.  Officiating will be the Reverend Jimmy Edward Graham.
