Deborah Ranee Gore McCumbee of Wallace passed from this earthly life after a period of declining health. She lost her fight but gained her wings on the early morning of Monday, May 4, 2020 while at home. Born in Wisconsin on September 18, 1965, she is the daughter of the late Donald Lee Gore and Charleene P. Benzel. She was preceded in death by her daughter--Kayla Rictchie.
Left to cherish her memory are her son--James J. Gore of Castle Hayne; mother--Charleene P. Benzel and husband Jerry of Union Grove, Wisconsin; brother--Jeffery Gore, Sr. and wife Lori of Wallace; nephew--Jeffery Gore, Jr. of Wallace; many relatives and friends in Wisconsin; and her best friend of forty years--Mary Green of Wisconsin.
Debbie was a "hippie type" who loved all things in nature including plants and flowers of all kinds, animals of all kinds and breeds, and birds. Butterflies would perch on her fingertips and hummingbirds came into her house. She could be stubborn at times but would also "give others the shirt off her back".
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Bethel Wesleyan Church--2635 NC Hwy 11--Rose Hill, NC 28458 officiated by Pastor Buck Garrison.
The family would like to thank Dr. Birgit A. Arb, oncologist, and her staff. You all cared for Debbie with such gentleness and kindness and the incredible staff of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare of Wilmington. You guided us through the most difficult time with kindness, grace, and dignity.
Family asks that, rather than flowers, contributions be made in her memory to the local ASPCA, Lower Cape Fear LifeCare of Wilmington, or to the charity of one's choice.
