Donald "David" Henderson

Donald “David” Henderson, 67, of Wallace, NC passed away from his earthly life into his heavenly home on May 18, 2021. Born on January 2, 1954 in Pender County to Hazel Lanier Henderson and the late Andrew Jackson Henderson. Also preceding him in death is his son - Tyde Daniel Henderson. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melony Williams Henderson, of 34 years, children - Jerome Henderson and wife Georgianna of Chinquapin, NC and daughter Blair Henderson of Wallace, NC, two grandchildren - Drew and Rylan Henderson, siblings - Randall and Nancy Henderson of Burgaw, NC, Danette and Allen Heath of Pink Hill, Rhonda and Dale Tyler of Burgaw, NC and Christopher and Susan Henderson of Wallace, NC as well as many other family and close friends.

David grew up in Duplin County. He worked with River Landing for eight years as well as the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for eighteen years. Recently he was working in security at The Duplin Winery. David was a member of New Beginnings Church of Pender in Burgaw, NC. Dependable, hardworking, caring, loving and generous are just a few words to describe David. He had a heart of gold.

David loved to cook and was known for the best bar-be-que in Wallace. He cooked and catered many local events as well as athletic events for Wallace Elementary and Wallace-Rose Hill High School. He served many  volunteer hours with the Booster’s Club. David was named “Mr. Bulldog” in the 2008-2009 school year. He also served as a cook for the Gobbles and Grunts Chapter of Guiding Kids in God’s Creation. 

He enjoyed cooking, hunting and fishing. His favorite vacation spot was in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where he found peace visiting Cades Cove. David was a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He enjoyed supporting them in their extracurricular activities. Whether it was mud racing, dance recitals, football, or softball, he was always the first one there and the last one to leave.  

David impacted a lot of lives throughout his lifetime. The memories and moments that were made will live on forever in our hearts.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Amos Lanier Cemetery in Chinquapin, NC.
