Dorothy “Dot” Olivia Griffin Atkinson 93 passed away August 31st at Brian Center in Wallace. She was born on July 14th, 1928 in Snow Hill, NC to the late William A. and Grace Witherington Griffin and preceded in death by her husband Irvin E. Rivenbark, Father of her 3 children: Linda Wilson of Wilmington, Janet Strauel (John) of Wallace, Ray “Bubba” Atkinson(Jeane) of Kure Beach, NC. After his death she married Ray M. Atkinson who is also deceased. He was a wonderful husband who stole the hearts of her 3 children. She enjoyed 7 grandchildren and 3 Great grandchildren. She is also survived by all her siblings, one brother Franklin D.Griffin of Scotts Hill, sisters: Sarah G. Harvell of Penderlea, Kay Brown of Hampstead, Eleanor King of Wallace, Barbara Bradshaw (Glen) of Rose Hill, Jo Wilson of Wallace, and Martha Cabral of Southport, NC. She was raised on a small farm in Penderlea, NC where she developed a strong connection to the earth, especially trees. She graduated from Penderlea High School in 1945. She enjoyed her classmate reunions at her home for many years. Dot was a Charter member of Federal Point Medical Center at Fort Fisher, NC and was honored with an “Outstanding Service” plaque, being instrumental in establishing the Medical Center. She was a Lifetime Master in bridge. She was an excellent bridge player for all of her adult life and member of 2 Wallace bridge clubs. Dot was a licensed real estate agent for many years at Kure Beach, NC. She had a real talent for decorating and floral arrangements, something she enjoyed immensely. She loved her family and friends and had many reunions and family dinners to bring her family together. All her family members knew they were loved by “Aunt Dot”. Anyone who knew Dot knew she adored her parents. Now she has the beautiful resurrection hope to be reunited with them on the last day; John 11:21. John 5:28&29 “Oh death, where is your sting?” - 1 Corinthians 15:55. “For I am convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love through Christ Jesus.” - Romans 8:38 & 39.
