Elmer Oneal (Chestnutt) Chambers

Mrs. Elmer Oneal Chambers of Rose Hill departed her earthly life for her heavenly home on Saturday morning, November 13, 2021.

Oneal was a noble woman of strong faith and character, attributes she worked hard to instill in her family.

Oneal had a love for her Lord, reading the Bible as she was able, being with her family, helping others in need, a determination to have her yard adorned with flowers for her and others to enjoy, and last but not least, in her years when she was able to get out, to find the perfect deal on a sale item to share with others.  Another passion and pride of Oneal's was the life-like nativity scene that she had staged in her yard every Christmas for nearly 15 years.  She loved to watch people stop to look at and often to come sit and pray at the manger of baby Jesus.

Oneal was predeceased by her husband of 58 years--Ralph Chambers, her parents--Lloyd and Marie Cavanaugh Chestnutt, a sister--Betty Mae Chestnutt, and a brother--Willie Edward Chestnutt.

Oneal leaves behind her sons--Mike Chambers and wife Jennefer and Dennis Chambers and wife Lisa, both of Rose Hill; grandchildren--Ryan Chambers and wife Natalie of Rose Hill, Shannon Jackson and husband Camron of Teachey, Kristen Merritt and husband Matthew of Rose Hill, and Ashley Blackburn of Kenly; great grandchildren--Caven Chambers, Millie Chambers, Luke Jackson, Jace Jackson, Amory Kate Merritt, and Addy Merritt.  She also leaves behind a loving sister-- Peggy and husband Bobby Sholar as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born April 3,1937, Oneal spent many years in the banking industry and made many close friends and acquaintances throughout those years--all of them special to her.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Oneal's caregivers through her years of health problems, especially those that have been with her for the past 3 years at her home.  We have no words to express our gratitude to all of you for being there with her every day and night and treating her like family.  She loved each of you very much.

A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Devotional Gardens, 1260 NC Hwy 24 and Hwy 50, Warsaw, NC.  Flowers are welcome or one may consider a contribution to Vidant Hospice of Kenansville.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the Chambers family.
