Ernst Wilhelm Meyer, Sr. of Rose Hill departed his earthly life on Thursday, November 5, 2020 while at Brian Center of Wallace. Born in Germany on June 14, 1931, he was the son of the late Friederich Dietrich and Annelotte Mandel Meyer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife--Bettie Hawes Meyer; daughter--Mary Anna Meyer-Arnold and husband Ken of Raleigh; son--Ernst Wilhelm Meyer, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Jonesboro, TN; grandchild--Alexander Arnold of Raleigh; sister--Christel Decker of Schwetzingen, Germany; and many nieces and nephews.
After his birth in Germany, Ernst spent a number of years there before coming to the United States after meeting the love of his life, Bettie Hawes. His career was spent working with Caldonia Prison as a supervisor in the prison cannery. He and Mrs. Meyer enjoyed traveling to Arizona where they spent part of their time each year. He also enjoyed collecting different items, cooking, and caring for his plants.
A graveside service to celebrate his life is set for 11:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2020 in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be the Reverend Brian Doles. Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the Meyer family.
