Helen Sholar Obituary

Helen Alene Fussell Sholar of Wilmington, formerly of Wallace, passed from her earthly life on Friday, January 4, 2019 while at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center in Wilmington.  Born in Duplin County on April 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lester Melvin and Frances Gertrude Matthews Fussell of Duplin County.  She was also preceded in death by her husband William Exum Sholar, a daughter Christy Lynn Sholar, a sister Grace Sasser, and brothers Bill Fussell and Frank Fussell.

Mrs. Sholar is survived by her children--Deborah Alene Sholar Waltz and husband Thomas of Wilmington and Terry Melvin Sholar and wife Debbie of Monroe; grandchildren--Terry Scott Sholar and wife Jennifer of Raleigh and Katherine Sholar Hardy and husband Matt of Matthews; great grandchildren--Benjamin, Michael, Ava, and Jacob.

A career as a layout designer in the newspaper industry led Mrs. Helen to many friendships which she held very dear to her heart.  She was known for her ability to remember the names of those she met and had an extremely good talent in painting.  Her spiritual life was fed in the Wallace First Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Adult Choir for many years and was a member of the Keenagers group in the church.  In younger days she was a member of a local Wallace bridge club.  She genuinely loved people  and routinely visited her friends who were in the nursing home or assisted living facility.  After her love for her Lord, her family was the most cherished in her life.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday, January 8th at 11:00 A.M. at Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services chapel, 401 West Main Street, Wallace, North Carolina.  A graveside service for family will follow at 1:30 P.M. in the Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Wallace First Baptist Church Music Department or the Building Fund for steeple enhancement.
