Helen Margurite (Engeron) Sloan

   Helen Margurite Engeron Sloan, age 98, of Wallace, passed from her earthly life on the evening of Monday, August 15, 2022, while a resident of Brian Center of Wallace.  Born on July 9, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Harry Joseph and Matilia Boudreaux Engeron.  Also preceding her in death are her husband—Williiam Hunter Sloan; daughter—Carolyn Ann Sloan; brothers—Wilbert, Delvin, John, Earl, and Charlie; and sisters—Thelma, Bertha, Beatrice, and Elsie.

   Left to cherish her memory are her children—Robert Warren Sloan and wife Crystal of Raleigh, Denise Buchanan and husband Danny of Durham, Sandra Johnson-Leu and husband Don of Clayton, and Janice Carter and husband Wade of Wallace; grandchildren—Christopher Peele and wife Michelle of Fuquay-Varina, Joshua Johnson and wife Kristi of Clayton, Jeremy Carter and wife Katie of Magnolia, and Kyle Carter and wife Kaitlyn of Greenbriar (AR); great grandchildren—Gage Johnson of Clayton, Jacob Peele of Fuquay-Varina, Alivia Johnson of Clayton, Eli Peele of Fuquay-Varina, and Thane Carter of Greenbriar (AR); adopted daughter—Lillian Johnson; god daughter—Yvonne Seale of Niceville (FL); and very dear friend—Clara Worsley of Raleigh.

  Mrs. Helen was, for the most part, a homemaker but worked for the Lions Club as a supervisor in the concession stands manned by blind individuals in the Raleigh area.  She also did bulk delivery of the News & Observer and Raleigh Times for route delivery of the newspapers.  As an excellent seamstress, she was many times viewed as the best dressed person at the event according to others.

  A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 1:00 pm on Friday, August 19, 2022, in the Pineview Cemetery of Rocky Mount, NC.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the Sloan family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westover United Methodist Church, 301 Carolina Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27606.
