JoAnn Pittman Cole of Duplin County passed from her earthly life on Monday morning, June 26, 2023, while at Kenansville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Born on February 24, 1942, she is the daughter of the late Robert Cecil and India Brown Futrell. She is also preceded in death by her first husband—Milton Pittman; second husband—Ed Cole; daughter—Diane Pittman Matthews Nazeworth; grandchildren—Dennis Matthews and Alex Matthews; and siblings—Billy Futrell, Charles Futrell, and Louella F. Whaley.
Left to celebrate her life are grandchildren—Jessica Stephens and husband Aaron of Jacksonville (NC) and Kelly Nazeworth of Goldsboro; great grandchildren—Tabitha Stallings, Jason O’Brien, Brantley Stephens, William Patrick Stephens, Ryleigh Stephens, and Tabitha Matthews; and brother—J. D. Futrell.
Mrs. Cole lived in Duplin County a great part of her life as a homemaker. She loved people and enjoyed caring for and helping them. There was a tremendous love for her family and they were the light of her life. She loved her God and her church was a vital part of her life.
A service to celebrate her life is set for 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services. Officiating will be the Reverend Jimmy Whaley, Reverend Brian Stamey, and Dr. John Douglas Futrell. Family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. till 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
