Mrs. Judith Ann Moody of Harrells departed from her earthly life during the late afternoon of Monday, December 6, 2021, while at Wake Medical Hospital of Raleigh. Born on June 4, 1943, she is the daughter of the late Royall Pearson and Minnie Eliza Register Johnson. Also preceding her in death are several sisters and brothers whom she loved dearly—Lucille Williams, Mazie Wells, Betty Ezzell, Lucy Bland, Jimmy Gray Johnson, Royall P. Johnson (Jr), John W. Johnson, Mack R. Johnson, and Frank Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband—Jimmy Lawrence Moody; her children—Jonathan R. Moody and wife Marian of Roanoke Rapids and Ashley Moody Burley and husband Doug of Harrells; her grandchildren—Katlyn Guy and husband Chandler of Teachey, McKenna Jackson and husband Will of Richlands, Samantha Moody of Greenville, and Cameron Burley of Harrells; great grandmother to Ben and Grayson; her brother—Tommy Roland Johnson; special friend—Ida Jane Newkirk who passed away recently in Tennessee; and a multitude of family and friends including her Sunday School class; and her beloved pet Ruby.
Mrs. Moody was born in New Hanover County. No stranger to large families, she was the youngest of eleven children. After receiving her degree in teaching, she went on to be a shining light to first graders in Hope Mills, NC, before later moving to teach kindergarten in Forest Park (GA), Garland Elementary and Union Elementary. Throughout her thirty-one years as a teacher, she touched the lives of every student who walked through her doors. Mrs. Moody had a habit of making every person she came into contact with feel loved and cared for. She was the embodiment of a Christlike woman, and her love for the Savior showed in everything she did. As a lifelong member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church, she was able to express that love openly with her congregation/family. She taught her family to love the Savior like she did and she loved her family more than anything on earth.
A service to celebrate her life is set for 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, in the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Creation Services of Wallace. Family will greet friends immediately prior to the service at 12:30 pm. After the service, interment will be in the Wells Chapel Baptist Church cemetery near Harrells. Officiating will be the Reverend Barry Wells and Reverend Ottis King. Floral gifts are welcome, or one may consider a contribution to the Wells Chapel Baptist Church.
