Leroy Young

Leroy Young of Teachey, NC passed from his earthly life and entered his heavenly home during the early evening of Friday, January 7, 2022 while at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center in Wilmington, NC.  Born on April 5, 1932, he is the son of the late Leroy and Mary Savage Young.  He is also preceded in death by two siblings—Elizabeth Young Knowles and Doris Young Benton.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-four years—Frances Ellen Brock Young of the home; children—Audrey Young Godwin and husband Tommy of Rose Hill and Roy Young and wife Sheila of Teachey; grandchildren—Anne Spain and husband Patrick of Greensboro, Eric Godwin and wife Ashley of Wendell, Tiffany Cassell and husband Shane of Teachey, and Lindsey Hatcher and husband Chris of Teachey; great grandchildren—Massey Cassell, Olivia Cassell, Abigail Hatcher, and Evie Godwin; and many, many friends.

After serving in the United States Army for two years as a MP in Germany, he came back home to continue his career.  Mr. Young was a farmer at heart but also worked at J.P. Stevens in Wallace for many years while also running the family farm.  He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, eating, and any outside activity.  He loved his Corinth Baptist Church and worked in many capacities during his lifelong membership there.  More than anything else on earth though, he loved his family.

A service to celebrate his life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in the 401 West Main Street chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services in Wallace, NC, officiated by Reverend Phillip Eakins.  Family will greet friends at a visitation at 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2021 at the funeral home.  Family asks that, rather than flowers, contributions be considered to the Corinth Baptist Church building fund.
