Mattie Farrior Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Johnson Farrior of Wallace departed her earthly life for her heavenly home in the late afternoon of Thursday, September 10, 2020 while at home.  Born in Duplin County on July 27, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Franklin and Cora Atwood Johnson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of thirty-nine years--Edward Hugh Farrior and five siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children--Gayle Ozment and husband Dennis of South Haven (MN), Hugh Farrior, Jr. and wife Peggy of Moosup (CN), Jennifer Perry and husband Jim of Willard, and Lynn Sebald and husband Doug of Myrtle Beach: brother--Willie Johnson of Orlando (FL); eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and eleven great great grandchildren.

Mattie was raised in Corinth Baptist Church of Rose Hill.  After her marriage to Edward Hugh Farrior of Willard, she attended Willard Presbyterian Church where they raised their four children.  Married to a farmer all those years, she took care of the house, push-mowed a very large yard and worked in tobacco during the summer, along with having a garden and the canning of all varieties of vegetables and fruits for her family.  She took a great deal of pride in her lawn and her flowers, where she spent many hours using her "green thumb" to full advantage.  Church work was also an important part of her life where she set an excellent example for her children and others in her community.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star for many years.  There was a period of about three years in which she was caregiver for her mother.

A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020 in Riverview Memorial Park of Watha, NC.  Family requests, rather than flowers, gifts be considered to Willard Baptist Church or Lower Cape Fear Life Care in her memory.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the Farrior family.
