Novene (Mobley) Merritt

Novene Mobley Merritt of Wallace, NC passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home on the early evening of Thursday, February 4, 2021 while at home with her loving family at her bedside.  Born on July 5, 1928 in Duplin County, she is the daughter of the late Dennie Sewell and Ella Lee Brown Mobley.  Also preceding her in death are husbands--David Bertis Merritt and Alton Gautier; siblings--Ray, Marie, Orlan, Al, and Otis.

Left to cherish her memory are her children--David Wayne Merritt and wife Cindy of Wallace, Victor G. Merritt of Magnolia, Daniel B. Merritt and wife Sandra Batista Merritt of Wallace, Dennis P. Merritt and wife Greta of Pin Hook, and Carolyn Dwyer of Virginia; sisters--Helen Southerland of Willard, Diane Conway of New Bern, and Jackie Jones of New Bern; brothers--Charles Mobley of Kissimmee, FL and Elton Mobley and wife Jane of Savannah, GA; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren; and her Yorkie "Bree".

Mrs. Merritt grew up in the Duplin County area and raised her children in Wallace.  The family attended the Wallace First Assembly of God Church.  She worked for a short time in the textile industry locally but most of her early life was spent caring for and nurturing her children.  Her love for them and her extended family was paramount in her life here on earth.  

A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 10:00 a.m. on Monday in the Riverview Memorial Park in Watha, NC.  Officiating will be the Reverend Leo Bracken.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the Merritt family.
