Rovene "Duck" (Blanton) Mathews

Rovene "Duck" Blanton Mathews passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021 while a patient at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.  Born on May 22, 1926 in Duplin County, she is the daughter of the late Bradley Thomas and Nancy Jane Dail Blanton.  Also preceding her in death is her husband--Arthur James Mathews; daughter--Nancy M. Walker; siblings--Harvey Blanton, William "Bill" Blanton, Norwood "Bud" Blanton, Richard "Coot" Blanton, Irene Horrell, and Josephine Horrell.

Left to cherish her memory are her children--Jane M. Powell of Leland and Jim Mathews and wife Barbara of Virginia Beach; grandchildren--Kyle Mathews of Virginia Beach, Tamara Drummond and husband John of Ohio; Jamie Futrell of Wilmington; and great granddaughter--Jenna Futrell of Castle Hayne. 

Mrs. Rovene spent most of her life in Duplin County after graduating from Wallace High School.  It was a joy for her to help others in so many ways during her personal time and her work time while she was employed at Collins and at Cato's in Wallace.  Gardening was very special for her and she was one of those rare people who had a "green vegetable thumb".  She also enjoyed all types of crafts including bead making.  Word search puzzles were always a joy for her.

A graveside service to celebrate her life is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2021 in the Duplin Memorial Gardens of Teachey. NC.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the Mathews family.
