Ms. Ruth Grey Parker, well known resident of Rose Hill, passed from this life late Saturday night, March 7, 2020 while at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, NC. Born on August 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Franklin and Lucy B. Parker of Rose Hill. Also preceding her in death are sisters—Louise Farrior, Sandra Schineller, Ernestine Hoffmann, Judy Parker; brothers—Fred Parker, Durwood Parker, Jacob F. Parker Jr., Joseph Parker.
Left to cherish her memory are her son—Michael Parker Ruxton and wife April of Leland; grandchildren—Sydney Paige Ruxton of Leland and Luke Alexander Traudt of New York; sisters—Fran Nitschke of Bay Shore, NY, Ruby Merritt of Sumter, SC, and Jen Albrycht and husband Bill of Meridan, CT; brothers—Gene Parker and wife Liz of Rose Hill, Roger Parker and wife Joan of Rose Hill; sister-in-law—Betty Parker.
Ms. Ruth was a very happy lady always filled with joy and there was nothing fake about her. Her outspoken and independent nature made her a “force of nature” and in the eyes of her family there was “no one like her”. The love she had for animals was surpassed only by her love of people, especially for her family. She never met anyone who did not like her, even though some of the younger family generation relates that she suddenly became a “Ninja” when she picked up her fly swatter. She worked for forty-two years as a laboratory technician at the Huntington Hospital in New York, then returned to Rose Hill to live in the house in which she grew up where she surrounded herself with a backyard full of flowers.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Saturday night, March 14, 2020 at 7:00 pm till 9:00 pm in the chapel of Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services of Wallace. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Floral arrangements are welcome or consider a contribution to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital @ stjude.org/memorial or to Pet Friends of Duplin—Post Office Box 152—Wallace, NC 28466.
