Sylvia Lee Walker of Penderlea, departed her earthly life for her heavenly home on Monday morning, May 4, 2020 while at home. Born on October 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Malcolm Hall, Sr. and Louise Wooten Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lewis Vance Walker in 2011.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter—Diane W. Knowles and husband Robert of Wallace; granddaughter—HaLee Knowles of Wallace; siblings—Virginia King of Wallace, Dorothy Perseghin of Burgaw, Betty Evans of Watha, and James M. Hall, Jr. and wife Lois of Wallace; brother-in-law—Harry Walker of Penderlea; sister-in-law—Mary Walker of Penderlea; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sylvia was a graduate of Burgaw HS and ECU. She was a devoted and dedicated member of Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church where she held many leadership roles and currently was active Elder and Clerk of Session. Anybody who needed to know anything about Potts, they called Sylvia. She was a member of the church choir and loved to sing. She was retired from Stevcoknit (J.P. Stevens) with over 30 years of service. She was a charter member of Union Rescue Squad.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., a drive-up only service, in the Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Penderlea. Honorary bearers will be Union Rescue Squad members. Family requests that, rather than flowers, contributions be made in her memory to the Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church—Cemetery Fund.
