Willa K. Newmons

Willa Knowles Newmons of Wallace, NC departed her earthly life enroute to her heavenly home on the early morning of Sunday, June 18, 2023 while at home.  Born in Duplin County on February 26, 1952, she is the daughter of the late Alvin Carr and Edna Grace Casey Knowles.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband—Jessie Ray Newmons of the home; children—Jessica Newmons of Wallace, Nathan Newmons and wife Wendy of Rose Hill, and Sheila Gurley and husband Kelvin of Grantham (NC); grandchildren—Kayla Adams and husband Nick of Willard, Kimmie Batson of Wallace, Katie Batson of Wallace, Kayla Fitzgerald  of Rose Hill, Mason Renna of Rose Hill, Jaxon Newmons of Rose Hill, Faith Gurley of Grantham, Alli Gurley of Grantham, and Shane Gurley of Grantham; siblings—Mike Alvin Knowles of Rose Hill and Sylvia Francis  of Wallace; many nieces and nephews.

Willa’s work career encompassed jobs in KFC in Wallace and in a Wallace Elementary School cafeteria.  She was a bit of a free spirit in some areas of her life.  Her family was paramount in the loves she experienced here on earth. 

A service to celebrate her life is set for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, in Corinth Baptist Church, with visitation at 3:00 p.m.  Officiating will be the Reverend Phil Eakins and Reverend Kelvin Gurley.  Interment will be in the Newmons Family Cemetery in Magnolia after the service.  Padgett Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the Newmons family.
